Some Pictures I’ve Liked volume 2
Some more pictures I’ve liked over the last week, for various reasons–an expanded holiday edition, with five exceptional photographs I wish I’d taken.
- Deer, Woods, and Snow Montage, from A Walk Through Durham Township. Kathleen Connally makes photographs that look like Wyeth paintings–appropriately enough, since Durham Township is in Bucks County, PA, a frequent Wyeth haunt. This one struck me as particularly Wyeth-like, with its warm tones and the streaks that look like they could have been made by a knife cutting through tempera.
- Barn, from Matt Blackcustard on Flickr. This is a Mod-Podge inkjet transfer, a technique that I might just try out while I figure out how to convince Kelly to let me get an enlarger.
- First thought, from Streets Are Alive by Nitska. This is a wonderful picture for its contrasts: the woman looks like she was dropped onto that bench from a small town circa 1960; the man looks perfectly at peace in his grubbiness. Upon looking a bit closer, I see that the man has a wry grin–he knows she’s looking at him. And she knows he knows, from her own pensive smile. And so on.
- Seagull Double Exposure from [CK] on Flickr. It’s just magical.
- roadtrip, a “found photo” from Big Happy Funhouse. Where is she going, where has she been? This picture is so full of innocence and charm and big expectations–a great way to lead into a new year.
