One of the pair of lions flanking the entrance to the Art Institute of Chicago; we strolled past them on our way to the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium. My sense of the scale of Chicago was a bit off, and toward the end it felt like a death march for four-year-olds–at least that’s how they characterized it–but once we reached the dinosaurs all was forgiven.

This just in! The annual Pratt Ice Cream Social is being held today in the shadow of the “Witch’s Hat” water tower in Prospect Park. If you’re in the Minneapolis area, hightail it over to Malcolm Avenue and Tower Hill; this is your one chance a year to climb the tower, at the highest natural point in Minneapolis (in a city not known for a great deal of topographical variation).
