loons
Those black smudges out on the water are loons. Trust me on this; it’s darned difficult to get close to a loon in a canoe, because they dive under the water and pop up minutes later someplace else. Which doesn’t prevent me from chasing them around a lake whenever I get a chance.
The red blurs at the top of the frame are not, alas, the Aurora Borealis; they are merely light leaks from the Holga. But I like them all the same.

And if they have loon babies, they’ll go into attack position if you get anywhere near them!
Point well taken, Paula! Fortunately, the little ones were big enough at this time to float around on their own rather than being confined to Mum or Dad’s back.
