Some Pictures I’ve Liked volume 52
Fifty-two weeks of “Some Pictures I’ve Liked” — that adds up to a year of showcasing some great pictures from around the photoblog world and elsewhere. By my count, I’ve listed 556 pictures, give our take, and have a few more this week. Not a bad run.
I’m going to take a break from this weekly list for a little while, but that doesn’t mean a break from visiting my favorite photography sites and searching for more; I plan to keep the same daily rotation and will call out a picture or two each day with the pictures I post of my own. Perhaps after the holidays I’ll start this up again, or perhaps I’ll be inspired to add a twist to it to keep it fresh each week.
Until then, enjoy the 19 pictures listed below!
- Spectacles from WHATEVERLAND; wonderful glow and shadows, hard to believe this still life is actually a miniature scene.
- winter bough from Mad Media Studios; subtle vignette, chilly tones.
- Untitled #20 from serial photographer; the path through the fog is so bright.
- Asakusa from dreamprovised; I love the depth of field and the subtle repetition in the characters on the drawers.
- gf+ from wvallen; oh those beautiful bokeh!
- ready to go… from incidence; Vitaly is one of my most dependable readers of this site, and especially of this feature; he and the missus are on their way to Togo for the winter. Good luck, Vitaly, and godspeed! Come back with lots of magical pictures!
- I Love Underground from Wiolka Kowalska; a classic busking scene on the Underground — makes me nostalgic for the time in my life that I spent under London.
- Neglected from Paxton Prints; great textures.
- Where ya’ goin’? from 6oh lens; pigeons made magical.
- aquarium poissons from kea; wow. Check out the whole series of magical aquarium pictures, it was hard to select just one.
- untitled (vandyck print) from bea; a typically dream-like and haunting image from another of my favorite sites and visitors.
- Customers at The Grill, LaCrosse and Christmas decorations, Krueger’s Korner Klub, LaCrosse from Fourteen Places to Eat; cozy and warm for the holidays (though I’m afraid I’d have nightmares after a few nickel taps under the steady gaze of Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixen …)
- Interior, Guild Chapel of the Holy Cross, Stratford on Avon, Warwickshire from philmorris; wonderful and subtle tone.
- The Redhead, Part 1 from straymatter; great portrait, wonderful use of light and shadow.
- le luco from Mv; there’s something subtly melancholic about this playground picture, perhaps caused by the wistful little girl in the red coat.
- Kay from cpl; one of a very nice series of guitar studies, the stray loop of string from the tuning peg makes this one stand out for me.
- 色葉散る - It scatters the color leaf from Million-Year Picnic; a wonderful contrast of texture and color. (My English translation comes from the little gizmo at Freetranslation.com; I’m sure the original is a little subtler.)
- Foxtails at the Erwinna Covered Bridge from A Walk Through Durham Township, Pennsylvania; the colors, the shadows, the reflection — how better to go out on a break from this feature than this incredible shot? Ah.

Hi Michael,
Thanks so much for the mention here!
My wife and I are in Togo now. I actually have access to a DSL line, and can begin to return to some of the sites I loved viewing so much last year.
As always, your site and your “picks” are great viewing!
I will be getting the Rolleiflex going again pretty soon, on the sandy streets of Lome. All I need to find is some distilled water to mix a few chemicals. With luck we should start to see some new material appearing in about 3 weeks.
Stay well!

Glad to hear it! I’ve kept your site in my regular rotation and look forward to seeing the havoc you wreak with Rollie on the streets of Lome.
Your quest for distilled water makes my laundry room setup seem embarrassingly high tech. Of course, real men use coffee crystals and seawater to develop their film: http://www.frugalphotographer.com/formulary-coffeedeveloper.htm I only tried this once: the smell was horrible, and the negatives came out way to dark to use. So good luck in your project, I’ll be watching for the results!
