At long last, Merlin’s Rest, at 3601 East Lake Street, Minneapolis (in the space formerly known as Popeye’s), has opened its doors! We had a tantalizing taste of the place on St. Patrick’s Day, when they opened under a special dispensation, and ever since I’ve taken a detour by the place on my way home to check the progress. Heading home after a Clicquot Club supper, we saw the “Open” sign in the window and had to stop.

There’s Guinness and Belhaven and such on tap, Irish and Welsh and Scottish bric-a-brac on the walls, and a pub quiz on Sunday nights. It’s a sign that the revival of East Lake Street that started at the old Oddfellow’s Hall at the west end and the Longfellow Grill on the east is making its way to the middle.
